This is a long summary of the last week in Sihanoukville it is safe to stay the longer we stay here the more fond of the place we’ve become its a bit long as I said it is a whole week. Thank you all for taking the time to read. We will probably re-visit Sihanoukville so look forward to more of the same.
We checked into Monkey Republic in a three bed dorm and waited for Rosannah!!! I started the day off with marmite on toast and it was amazing!
Then we chilled by the pool and relaxed for the whole day. Perfect! We chilled inside a bit in the afternoon as the sun is seriously boiling now and then we got some food and waited for Rosannah to arrive! She arrived YEY! And I enjoyed talking about girl things and catching up on everything that has happened since Woodstock. Sometimes it feels so long ago. We had a few drinks and Joe befriended some boys who joined our table. We got an early night considering!
I ummed and arred about going to Koh Rong with Rosannah and leaving Joe to chill here for a few days but decided against it mainly due to financial reasons (ie. not trusting Joe with the money)! We went out and had some breakfast and thats when we met Kate! She was so funny and sat with us for a while as I enjoyed my second helping of marmite and toast this week! Sorry not sorry. We left Kate so Rosannah and I could manage to sneak out for a quick shopping trip while Joe was having some breakfast and I did treat myself to a new Bikini from this gorgeous little shop. They had such amazing clothes etc. that I think I may be paying them a second visit. We waved goodbye to Rosannah at lunch time and chilled out by the pool again. Kate reappeared and told us that she’d checked in and that we could stay in her room for free as it had 3 beds! So we agreed to do that! Monkey Republic is a nice hostel and its handy having the fab restaurant and the pool so close! We offered to pay our share of the room but she was having none of it! So after moving the bags around the 3 of us sat by the pool and relaxed. We all got dressed up and headed out to our fave restaurant for some baked camembert and squid again I tried to pay the food bill but Kate insisted on paying her share! The night was a real laugh and we proceeded onto the beach for a few more drinks. Joe headed back as he was tired and the two of us sat drinking cheap beer and putting the world to rights. We headed back only to be informed by Joe that there was a mouse in the room. Not impressed. We decided to ignore this fact and get some sleep! At 3am I was rudely awoken by the pitter patter of tiny mouse feet along the side of my bed. I tried to ignore it but was unsuccessful and climbed into bed with Joe. He was not impressed and I think its fair to say no-one got much sleep that night past 3 am. In the morning Kate went for a run as she’s training for a marathon. I read my book and Joe slept until 2 minutes before we had to check out. Kate later went to catch the boat to one of the islands. Now it is just Joe and I we booked a private room just down the road from Monkey for $10 a night.. not exactly cheap as chips but it’ll do and the best thing is its really cold in the room! We had a pizza and an early night watching Derren Brown re-runs on youtube. Tomorrow Ross gets here then the party really starts!
The arrival of Ross!
Woke up early and Ross had already messaged saying he was gunna sleep for a bit before coming to see us. Rosannah had also messaged saying that she might head back today… YES please don’t leave me on my own with the boys.
(Bit of back story for those who don’t know… Joe and I met in America working at a summer camp. Joe was an outdoor instructor and I ran a little environmental centre with loads of animals. This is where we met Ross 3 years ago and we’ve not seen him since. Ross was a life guard and could drink more beer than the rest of the camp put together. Joe travelled with Ross after camp so we’re pretty excited about seeing him again wooo!)
Joe and I headed for breakfast and then decided to go back into Monkey Republic for a beer. Yes thats right a beer at 10 o’clock in the morning what were we thinking. It took ages for Ross to get there and we were like little kids waiting for our friend to come and play. We sat and waited and waited and then Ross appeared accompanied by his friend from home Alex! Ah after 10 minutes we were all taking the piss out of each other as the three years melted away what a laugh!! The main topic of conversation was how much weight Ross has managed to put on in the last three years. Its safe to say that night ended up quite messy we went onto the beach and then continued to drink in our room where we waited for Rosannah to return. Me and her took Joe out for a meal in a desperate bid to sober him up a bit. Needless to say it didn’t work and I had to put him to bed by 11.
The next day was more of the same we spent time by the pool chilling and drinking. Rosannah and I went to the cinema which was an epic failure. As we tried to watch lion but the subtitles were to Lion king. Not ideal we left without paying and caught up with the boys for much more of the same.
Everyone was feeling worse for ware the next day especially Joe who claims he’s ill – turns out he was actually ill – I met Ross for breakfast then more antics by the pool. And a group trip to a different cinema in the evening to watch Focus followed by The minions not my choice dare I say it. Anyway everyone got an early night except for Rossannah and I who trekked down the beach to the market i’d previously visited. We got there after 2 hours and nearly 15k later well in need of some Gin. We had a relaxing evening and got a motor taxi back to Sihanoukville when we were done. The next day we were meant to be going to the water park but no one was feeling up to it and Ross and Alex had their first day of work that evening plus Joe and I had a night bus to catch So more pool fun including a bit of Acro Yoga and need I say it more beer. We said our emotional good byes and headed for our night bus vowing to meet the boys again when we return to Cambodia in four weeks.
